We Offer Individualized College Coaching for High Schoolers With Big Dreams

As a coach, my role is not just to tell you what to do, and expect you to do it. My first and most important job is to listen—really listen— to what you and your son or daughter want out of this process. My next task is to equip your son or daughter to go after it by digging deep, finding the courage, and cultivating the discipline to complete the most daunting task they have probably encountered thus far. Working with me, fear is replaced by knowledge and, eventually, it is their own goals that drive them, not mom's or dad's or mine.

THE GOALS ARE THEIRS. THE WORK IS THEIRS. THE SUCCESS IS THEIRS.

At Camino, we support your student (and you!) through all phases of the college admissions process. Let’s build a custom coaching package that includes the support services you and your student need most.

BUILDING “THE LIST”

We guide clients to be both aspirational and realistic in making a list of schools, always keeping in mind not just the prestige of an institution, but whether or not a college will actually be a good match for the student. We strive to learn everything we can about your student in order to build a balanced list of high likelihood (“foundation”), medium likelihood (“possible”) and low likelihood (“reach”) schools.

essay coaching

Students have very few chances to make an impression on an admissions committee. Make it count! Using a tried and true process, we give our clients an understanding of the aspects of their life experience and personal qualities they should highlight in these essays. Finding your voice can be fun and is good preparation for interviews.

leadership development

Today more than ever, universities and employers are looking for students with well-developed leadership skills. How is your son or daughter showing up as a leader? Many students are eager to lead but don’t know how. Starting in the first and second years of high school, we encourage students to explore possibilities for leadership in their circles of influence. A coaching approach gives the student new insight into themselves and fosters a growth mindset.

COURSE SELECTION

Many approach course selection in high school haphazardly, with an eye to graduation requirements but not toward college admissions. We help students make the hard decisions so that they don’t disqualify themselves from programs that would be a great fit “if only” they had taken the right classes.

financial aid & scholarships

Every parent dreams of scholarships they hope their son or daughter will receive. We make sure your student maximizes opportunities for financial aid by applying to the right colleges and knowing where to look for the larger, university-sponsored awards. Parents also need help managing financial aid forms and deadlines, so we share our experience to simplify the process.

Picking a major

Though college used to be a time of exploration eventually leading to a career, increasingly, students need to declare what they would like to study, especially if applying to Texas public universities or engineering schools. We offer tools which develop career awareness and excitement and integrate what we learn from these conversations into the college list.

emotional intelligence (EQ) assessment

We administer the EQ-i to students interested in developing as leaders in their schools and communities. This tool is also useful for college list building, as it identifies areas of strength and weakness that suggest the type of environment in which your student will thrive.

goal setting & deadline management

Benefit from the expertise of our services to determine goals and make a plan to achieve them. We provide the structure you want and need to support accountability.

test prep

Standardized tests play an outsized role in admissions at most colleges, and your student needs a testing plan. Using our unique Duo Coaching method to make the process more fun and memorable, we share resources for targeted test preparation, provide support for the writing sections of exams, and help your student set goals for how much time to spend studying.
